Something goes wrong and before you realize you've carried it into the rest of the day…
We all do it. One bad moment bleeds into the next hour, the next conversation, the next decision.
It doesn't take long before you have written off the whole day. Sometimes the whole week.
I'll tell you something, though. There was something wrong with the moment. There's no need for the day to turn out that way.
Joy is a choice. A choice you make.
When you experience a bad moment, you can learn from it.
Then decide it's over.
1) Start by pausing and taking a deep breath whenever negativity creeps in.
2) Reframe your mindset by focusing on something positive or expressing gratitude for something in your life, shifting your day back on track.
That is the whole practice.
It sounds kinda simple. But it's not always easy.
But do it enough times and life stops feeling like it is running you.
You will miss it sometimes. The bad moment will win. That's fine. Catch it sooner next time.
The muscle builds. 💪🏽
THIS WEEK IN FATHERHOOD
Walking in AS Joy…
Continuing with this concept of joy, my world lights when I walk into my home and my kids run to me at the door.
Especially after a long/complex day at work, this is the ultimate recharge.
So this week I made it an intentional act to walk in with that same energy reflected back.
Kneel down
Smile hard
Arms wide open
Be as happy to see them as they are to see me regardless of what happened at the office, my ride home, in my inbox…none of that matters in that moment.
If their joy is going to be big, you bet your ass mine’s gonna be bigger!
Takeaway: Bring BIG JOY into every room you step into.
WHAT I BUILT THIS WEEK
Physical Mail for Fathers…
As AI infiltrates our days, and algorithms hack our attention, there’s something grounding about tangible/analog ways of doing things.
So in addition to the mens circles, newsletter, and online community, we’ve launched a snail-mail service for men to have something to open up in the mail that isn’t another bill.
We’re calling it The Alchemia Post and it’s probably the thing I’m most excited for nowadays. It just feels right.
