Too many men I know (including myself at times) are racing toward a future they haven’t even defined.

We strive for the vague and ever-evolving "someday."

We build a life around what’s expected and then need vacations, easy dopamine hits, or distractions to tolerate it all.

But what if you could design a life you didn't need a break from?

Not some fantasy life.
No van life aesthetic (even though that's pretty cool).
I mean a life that is grounded in purpose, aligned with your values, and powered by your presence.

Let me outline a few steps that I think can help anyone get closer to that ideal place of freedom.

By clarifying your values and setting clear goals, you can create a life that feels fulfilling and meaningful. This involves aligning your daily actions with your long-term vision, cultivating meaningful relationships, and prioritizing activities that bring you joy and satisfaction.

Audit Your “Default Life”

  • Who designed/determined the life you're currently living?

  • What parts of your day feel draining?

  • What did you say yes to that you no longer feel like doing?

  • Where are you trading authenticity for approval?

Awareness is the first lever of sovereignty. Until you name what’s misaligned, you can’t reclaim it.

Define Aliveness over Success.

Society tells men to chase performance metrics like salary, sales, horsepower, and square footage.

But success without aliveness is just high-functioning numbness.

Instead, ask:

  • What activities make me lose track of time? (aka. flow-state.)

  • What kinds of conversations leave me feeling more alive?

  • Where do I feel most myself?

These aren’t selfish questions. They're guiding indicators.

“A man is rich in proportion to the number of things he can afford to let alone.”

— Henry David Thoreau

Structure for the Soul, Not Just the Calendar

If your calendar is filled with external obligations, your life becomes an outward-focused to-do list.

Start adding “soul time” into your days:

  • 20 minutes in silence

  • Cold plunges or breathwork

  • A weekly walk with another man who gets it

  • A recurring dinner with no phones and genuine presence

Build a life you’re proud of in the small hours, not just in social media highlight reels.

Know your core values.

My cv's are explained in this Medium article.

What are yours?

Once you name them, every “yes” or “no” becomes easier. Every pivot makes more sense.
You’re not chasing a vibe. You’re stewarding a mission.

The bottom line

You don’t need to quit everything or burn it all down.

You need to be honest, clear, and intentional.
Your time is your design medium. Use it to carve a life that energizes you, not drains you.

Because men leading a purposeful life don't need to escape.
They expand.

This week:

Spend 90 minutes alone with no distractions. Journal the answers to these:

  1. What in my current life feels off, even if it “looks fine"?

  2. What’s one thing I’d do more of if I weren’t afraid of judgment?

  3. What would I redesign or build from scratch if I had the chance?

Then ask:
What am I willing to change—right now—to get closer to the life I'd love?

Be well, Nick.
